Welcome to Carbondale, Illinois!
The Carbondale Convention & Tourism Bureau was created in 1985 to develop, promote, market and facilitate activities designed to increase the numbers of out-of-town visitors to the Greater Carbondale Community.
The Bureau's staff works diligently to lure leisure travelers as well as meeting and conference travelers to the community. The Carbondale Sports Commission, a sub-unit of the bureau, continues to be successful in luring sports events and related activities to the region.
In 2002, the Carbondale Convention & Tourism Bureau was successful in partnering with Southern Illinois University and John A. Logan Community College to create the curriculum for the Tourism Management Associate Degree, placed at Logan College. In that program, students obtain the skills for low- to mid-management positions in the tourism industry.
The Bureau is currently working on a new project, which will develop the many partnerships in the region, which will result in the strengthening of a culinary tourism destination in Southern Illinois.
