Carbondale
has long been associated
with gardens.
Historical
accounts tell us that in the dearly days of
the city,
the gardens were so spectacular in our downtown that
ladies would ride the train to
Carbondale just to look at
the beautiful flower beds. This is still the
case, thanks
to Carbondale Main Street and their cadre of great
volunteers! Carbondale's garden clubs and the
Carbondale Park District
make certain that our parks are
filled with magnificent plantings and
Carbondale's
Green Earth organization makes certain that natural areas
are preserved and maintained. Perhaps
Carbondale takes
its lead from its natural surroundings in the Giant City
State Park and the majestic Shawnee National Forest!
